Second Century Habitat Fund Announces 2026 Habitat Decal Contest
Artists invited to celebrate South Dakota’s outdoor heritage through art
PIERRE, S.D. — November 1, 2025 — The Second Century Habitat Fund (SCHF) is once again inviting South Dakota artists to put their creativity to work for conservation through the 2026 Habitat Decal Contest. This annual event connects the art community with wildlife conservation by showcasing original artwork on collectible decals distributed statewide to support grassland and habitat restoration.
“The decal contest is one of our favorite ways to connect creativity with conservation,” said Bruce Cull, President of the Second Century Habitat Fund. “It allows artists to share their passion for South Dakota’s landscapes while helping us tell the story of why habitat matters—for pheasants, wildlife, and people alike.”
The winning design will appear on SCHF’s 2026 Habitat Decal — a symbol of the shared commitment among South Dakotans to protect the prairies, wetlands, and grasslands that sustain our state’s wildlife. The original artwork will be auctioned off, with proceeds directly benefiting SCHF’s mission to restore and retain habitat across South Dakota.
“This contest brings together two things we care deeply about—our outdoor heritage and the people who help us celebrate it,” said Elysabeth Kierl, Executive Director of SCHF. “Every decal shared, every design submitted, and every acre restored is part of the story we’re building for future generations.”
Entries are due by December 5, 2025, and the winner will be announced on January 5, 2026. Artists can submit their entries online at: https://form.jotform.com/243254248745158
Contest Rules
• Designs must be submitted in digital format with a minimum resolution of 300 px.
• By entering, participants grant SCHF permission to use their artwork for marketing, promotional, and fundraising purposes (including social media, print, and merchandise).
• The original artwork of the winning design must be submitted to SCHF for inclusion in an official auction, with proceeds benefiting wildlife habitat programs.
• SCHF retains the right to reproduce the winning design for promotional and fundraising purposes.
• While there is no cash prize, the winning design will be featured on decals proudly displayed on vehicles and windows across South Dakota—and beyond. The artist will receive statewide recognition and be celebrated as part of SCHF’s ongoing efforts to champion conservation through creativity.
